The Heart & Soul of Truckee

Built by hand in the 1870s. Restored with love for today.

George Schaffer was an early settler and timberman. He built this house in the 1870s for his family. Later it housed the mill workers who helped raise a town from the Sierra timber. Their spirit still lives in these walls.

Today the hotel is fully restored. Every modern comfort is here. It is the perfect basecamp for Truckee and North Lake Tahoe in every season.

Good to Know

Questions, answered

Is there parking?
Yes. Free parking sits behind the hotel, one space per room. Public lots are steps away when the row fills up.
Can we bring the kids?
Of course. Several rooms have cots and sleeper sofas. The 8A and 8B suite sleeps up to seven. Extra guests are $25 per night each.
Will the trains keep us up?
The historic railroad is part of Truckee's charm. The house has solid old bones, every room has a white noise machine, and free earplugs wait at the front desk. Most guests tell us they slept great.
Is there air conditioning?
Mountain nights cool off fast, and every room has a fan. Upstairs rooms also have air conditioning. Ask for one when you book a summer stay.
Can we bring our dog?
We are a non-pet hotel, though service animals are always welcome. The Truckee Tahoe Pet Lodge is just down the street at (530) 582-7268.
